About us
The Waltham Singers is one of the leading mixed-voice adult choirs in Essex with a reputation for a high standard of performance across a wide range of musical styles.
The choir performs regularly at both Great Waltham Parish Church and Chelmsford Cathedral and at other venues such as Saffron Hall, Snape Maltings, Queen Elizabeth Hall on London's Southbank and Fairfield Halls, Croydon.
The extensive repertoire of works performed is designed to appeal to all tastes and ranges from the Renaissance to contemporary, including works commissioned by the choir. Recent performances have included Handel Messiah, Haydn Creation, Mozart Solemn Vespers, Brahms German Requiem and a world premiere performance of So Strong is His Love commissioned by the choir from Roxanna Panufnik.
We regularly engage professional soloists and instrumentalists for our concerts, many of whom are, or who have gone on to be, well-known names both in the UK and abroad.
History
Founded in 1973 in Great Waltham, choir now attracts singers from across a wide area and rehearses in Chelmsford on Thursday evenings in term time at St. Cedd’s School Hall, New London Road, Chelmsford, from 7.30-9.30pm.
Our Musical Director, Andrew Fardell was first appointed in 1983 and has a well-deserved reputation for dynamic direction and achieving the best results from both choral and orchestral resources.

The Waltham Singers is a registered charity (No. 1153650) and is affiliated to Making Music, an organisation supporting nearly 3,000 voluntary music groups across the UK. Our objectives are to promote, improve, develop and maintain public education in, and appreciation of, the art and science of music in all its aspects, mainly by the presentation of public concerts and recitals.
